Senator Obama has made it a point time and time again to refer to the “No Child Left Behind” initiative as “President Bush's.” Borrowing from the rhetoric of the NEA, Obama has made it very clear that he wants to get rid of the program, scrap it completely.
Senator Obama is once again being disingenuous when he tries to place this bipartisan legislation at the feet of President Bush. In fact, the bill was sponsored by an Obama ally, Senator Ted Kennedy, and was overwhelming passed by Democrats and Republicans alike in 2002. So why does Obama keep calling it "Bush’s program?" He knows the history of the bill and its passage, or is it just politically expident to say the program isn't working (providing no statistics to back that claim up), and then blame President Bush for the mess? That seems to be Obama's 'modus operandi.' Invent a problem, blame it on someone else, then provide a pile of fluff and label it a solution.
I do not fully support 'No Child Left Behind', in large part because it keeps the federal government in the local classroom. But barring the eradication of federal influence in our neighborhood schools, a program such as 'No Child Left Behind' is necessary to ensure educational integrity.
