US Guns in Mexico: Why Let Those Darn Facts Get In The Way?

Throughout the week many within the anti-2nd Amendment crowd pointed to the claims by President Obama that over “90%” of the guns used for illegal activities in Mexico came from the US. In fact these figures were just slightly exaggerated…ONLY BY 73%!

Fox News: Myth of Percent of Guns in Mexico a Fraction of Number Obama Claimed

I guess it was the thought that counts.

Liberals Lie: I’m Shocked!

For those that have read my blog in the past, and for those that are new to it, you know that I have very little tolerance for the dishonesty displayed by many on the Left. There are two things that I have learned when dealing with Liberal lies:

1. It is important for conservatives to not only known the historical truth, but to know the truth as liberals see it. Many liberals believe what they believe because they are just repeating fallacies that have been offered to them. Nothing shuts a liberal up faster than the FACTS. Facts are to liberals as garlic is to vampires.

2. Never, ever let a liberal get away with a false statement. I do not care where you are, and who it is, letting Liberals get away with a false statement is like letting your puppy poop on the rug. If you don’t correct them, they will continue to defecate all over the place! Now I am not saying that you have to get into a heated exchange. It could be as simply as saying “that’s not true,” and point the misguided individual to the truth. Or better yet, challenge the person to “explain” their statement, example:

SLS (Stupid Liberal Statement): “If we had more regulations, we wouldn’t be in this financial mess! This is all President Bush’s fault.”

ICR (Intelligent Conservative Reply): “Really, what are the regulations now, and what regulations would you proposed that would have stopped this?” Were you aware that President Bush and now ex-Senator Sununu recommended changes that would have prevented much of what we are dealing with now? Have you ever heard of defeated Senate Bill S.190? No, maybe you should do your homework before you hurt yourself. Push for details.

You know you have won when the Liberal says one of the following: “bigot, fascist (or Nazi), neocon (which most Liberals are unable to provide a proper definition for), Bush lover (or fill in the conservative of choice),” or my all time favorite – “I really don’t want to get in an argument (liberal translation: I have no idea what I am talking about).”

Democrats count on the fact that liberals, like parrots, will just repeat what they are told. Liberals also believe that if enough people repeat the lie, then eventually it BECOMES the truth….AMAZING! Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying all liberals lie; some actual believe what they are saying. I am also not saying liberals are stupid, but as Ronald Reagan once said (about liberals) – “They know so much that just isn’t so.”

Barney Frank Is A Financial Idiot

" Suffering Succotash..."

First it was Joe Biden telling a tale of apocalyptic doom if Obama is
elected; now we have Barney Frank encouraging Obama to spend more, tax more, and don’t worry about the deficit:

‘….at this point there needs to be an immediate increase in spending…..…this is the time that deficit fear has to take a second seat.” There is one sane thing in Frank’s statement:

“….. my encouraging will probably have more impact on Senator Obama than Senator McCain.”

God help this country if the likes of Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are allowed to regain power and go unchecked.

Obama’s FISA “Problem”

Progressives are, in the words of Margaret Kimberley (BAR), feeling that Obama has made “chumps” of all of them. Their latest spilt with Obama concerns his recent shift regarding the FISA bill.

Black Agenda Report: So Long Sucker

When Obama was courting the Left, during the "primary politics season," he was not only adamant that FISA should not be passed if it included retroactive immunity for the telecommunication companies, but threatened to lead a filibuster:

October 2007:

17th - "It is time to restore oversight and accountability in the FISA program, and this proposal -- with an unprecedented grant of retroactive immunity -- is not the place to start."

24th- (Campaign statement) "To be clear: Barack will support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies."

December 2007:

24th – (Campaign statement) "Senator Obama unequivocally opposes giving retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies and has cosponsored Senator Dodd's efforts to remove that provision from the FISA bill. Granting such immunity undermines the constitutional protections Americans trust the Congress to protect. Senator Obama supports a filibuster of this bill, and strongly urges others to do the same. It's not clear whether he can return for the vote, but under the Senate rules, the side trying to end a filibuster must produce 60 votes to cut off debate. Whether he is present for the vote for not, Senator Obama will not be among those voting to end the filibuster."

January 2008:

28th – “I strongly oppose retroactive immunity in the FISA bill.

Ever since 9/11, this Administration has put forward a false choice between the liberties we cherish and the security we demand.

The FISA court works. The separation of power works. We can trace, track down and take out terrorists while ensuring that our actions are subject to vigorous oversight, and do not undermine the very laws and freedom that we are fighting to defend.

No one should get a free pass to violate the basic civil liberties of the American people -- not the President of the United States, and not the telecommunications companies that fell in line with his warrantless.” surveillance program. We have to make clear the lines that cannot be crossed.

That is why I am co-sponsoring Senator Dodd's amendment to remove the immunity provision. Secrecy must not trump accountability. We must show our citizens - and set an example to the world - that laws cannot be ignored when it is inconvenient.

But what a difference a few months, and the need to shift to the center, has made for Obama. The FISA bill that passed included retroactive immunity for the telecom companies, and what was Obama’s response:

June 2008:

"It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program, review the report by the Inspectors General, and work with the Congress to take any additional steps I deem necessary to protect the lives -- and the liberty -- of the American people."

And with that statement, and his “YES” vote (one of the few times he has actually voted as a US Senator), Obama continues to make more enemies on the Left. Does this latest Obama shift, or flip-flop, call his integrity and leadership ability into question again?

Obama: The Shift Is On

Senator Obama may be “open to redefining” his Iraq withdrawal plan, or maybe not. In two different appearances before the media on July 3, he left the reporters, and much of America, scratching their heads.

Guardian: Obama The Flip-Flopper

Obama first indicated that additional information may require him to reconsider his long-standing commitment to a 16-month troop withdrawal. Obama justified this “shift” by stating that he may have to reconsider Iraq after meeting with the Generals. Gee Mr. Obama, don’t you think you should have waited to commit to a planned retreat until after you sat down with the military leaders in Iraq in the first place?

Obama came out later in the day to state his earlier comments had been “misunderstood,” and that “make no mistake about it” he was still committed to the 2 brigades a month withdrawal, with a 16-month retreat. Obama blamed the “confusion” on the McCain camp (?)……..Pathetic.

But Obama also told reporters that when he talked earlier about refining his policy, he was not referring to the 16-month timeline, but to how many troops may need to remain in Iraq to train the local army and police and what troop presence might be needed to ensure "al-Qaida doesn't re-establish a foothold there." This is the first time America has heard this part of Obama’s plan, but exactly what McCain warned about months ago. Obama’s past troop retreat comments made no reference to leaving troops behind to assist the Iraqis, but it begs to be ask, how long would the troops need to remain.....100 years? Obama and his liberal clan made it point to criticized McCain for recommending maintaining a US troops presence in Iraq, as we did in Japan, Germany, Kosovo, and Kuwait, something Obama now supports. To leave troops in harms way is not a withdrawal, and to leave a token force behind as Obama has suggested, would be a disaster.

But how did the media report on these conflicting press conferences? By stating that the “Republicans quickly pounce on Obama’s comments.” But so did the media. There were so many conflicting stories on the Internet related to Obama’s statements, no one, including Obama, can give a clear answer on exactly what happened between the two press conferences?

The only thing that surprised me regarding this was that it happened this soon. As I wrote on July 2 (Obama Advisers Seem Confused), Obama had to change his position on Iraq, because his plan would have doomed us to a failed retreat, and inevitably would require us to return to the region from a position of weakness. This recent Obama gaff proves once again he lacks the experience and military understanding to serve as Commander-in-Chief.

Obama: Talk Really Is Cheap!

There is no stronger advocate for the equal pay movement than Senator Obama. Senator Obama strongly supported the most recent attempt to pass the Equal Pay Act ( Ledbetter: Equal Pay Act Fails), and he has often been guilty of promoting the fallacy that woman make less money than men while performing the same job (The Myth of Equal Pay ). But how does Obama really feel about the issue?

With all of Obama's talk, he does not practice what he preaches:

Obama: Less pay for female staff members

Note that the female staffers at Senator John McCain's campaign make more than their male counterparts on average. Funny we didn't hear about this story from the mainstream media; I guess it must not be a big deal. It would only be a big deal if the candidate was a Republican.

I look forward to the excuses and "logical" reasons for this discrepancy; of course they will only be valid for Democratic applications. Go figure.

Obama: The DC Gun Ban Is Constitutional…No Wait, I Meant…

Now that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of individual rights, the Obama camp felt it necessary to “clarify” a statement made by Obama regarding the DC Ban:

Obama Camp: Inartful Statement (?)

Inartful….that is not even a word! You mean “now that the Supreme Court has upheld the 2nd Amendment, Senator Obama would like to change his mind.”

Obama is making a “push to the Center.” From agreeing with the minority regarding the child-rape, death penalty decision (Supreme Court: Child-Rape Does Not Warrant Death Sentence), with trying to “reposition” himself on the Washington Gun Ban, he is hoping to come across more moderate. But will it work?
