Former KKK Exalted Cyclops Endorses Obama

All of us have dirt we would like to wash away, for Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) the filth of a racist past cannot be easily removed with soap and water.

Senator Byrd has come out in support of Senator Obama, endorsing his candidacy for President of the United States; going against the wishes of his constituents, who overwhelming voted for Hillary Clinton.

The press very quietly reported on the Byrd endorsment, and not all have included Senator Byrd’s racist pass, as if to say his endorsement today excoriates him from his “misguided youth.” For you see, if you haven’t heard, the Honorable Robert Byrd was a member of the KKK.

Mr. Byrd was not only a member of the KKK, he served as a chief recruiter (Kleagle), and ultimately rose to the rank of Exalted Cyclops (sort of like a regional manager). But Byrd’s racist views where not limited to cross burnings and robe wearing activities. Senator Byrd was extremely opposed to the integration of the military, having expressed in displeasure in writing:

  • “Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

  • "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side"

After being elected to federal office, Bryd aggressively fought all of the early equal rights legislation that came before him. But as time passed, Byrd mellowed, eventually attributing his early racist views to political necessity. Today, Byrd would have us believe that his endorsement of Obama is sincere, and having nothing to do with political necessity or reparations for his past sins.

Sentator Byrd is a classic representation of the Democratic Party, now and in the past. Senator Byrd action once again demonstrate the calculated maneuvers of the ultimate political animal. There is nothing brave or redeeming about Senator Byrd’s endorsement, Byrd's endorsement is nothing more than an example of the Democratic Party's "chickens coming home to roost."
