Sunken ships loosen bitter lips. The failed McCain campaign, for all its high-minded talk of honor, duty and courage, is now teeming with unscrupulous gossipmongers. Seems the dishy staffers forgot to crack open their copies of Sen. McCain’s bestseller, “Character Is Destiny: Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember.”

Rest assured: Their cowardly character assassination of Sarah Palin won’t be forgotten.

The finks turned to Newsweek and Fox News to spread petty rumors about Palin’s intellect and character. The magazine peddled anecdotes from sources horrified that Palin greeted top advisers at her hotel room—gasp! -- “wearing nothing but a towel” and “wet hair.”

Fox News reporter Carl Cameron breathlessly reported that his unnamed McCain sources told him Palin lacked “a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate” because, they claimed, she didn’t know which countries were parties to the North American Free Trade Agreement and “didn’t understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself.”

Let’s assume for a moment that the McCain rumormongers are telling the truth about Palin (and I don’t believe they are). Who would it damn more: Palin, or McCain and his vetters, who greenlighted her for the vice presidential nomination? Don’t need a fancy Ivy League degree to figure that one out.

In introducing her to America, McCain praised her independence and backbone: She “stands up for what’s right, and she doesn’t let anyone tell her to sit down.” The inside snipers are now roasting her for that very attribute—redefined as “going rogue”—because she had the nerve to try to schedule media interviews on her own. The nerve of her!

Palin’s response to the campaign fragging? At a late Wednesday night airport press conference in Anchorage, immediately upon landing home after the election defeat, she smiled cheerfully. The Alaska governor shrugged off the “foolish things” said by the McCain saboteurs, and simply said, “It’s politics. … It’s rough and tumble and you’ve got to have a thick skin just like I’ve got.”

Hollywood savaged Palin. Journalists mocked her. Liberal blogs slimed her. Opponents cursed her, Photoshopped her, hacked her e-mail, hanged her in effigy, called her bigot, Bible-thumper and bimbo, and attacked her husband and children. But nothing Palin endured during the election season compares to the treatment she’s receiving from these backstabbing blabbermouths who worked on the same campaign she poured herself into over the last three months.

Sarah Palin worked her heart out. She energized tens of thousands to come out when they would have otherwise stayed home. She touched countless families. I didn’t agree with everything she said on the campaign trail. But she vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life more eloquently in practice than any of the educated conservative aristocracy. And she did it all with a tirelessness and an infectious optimism that defied the shameless, bottomless attempts by elites in both parties to bring her and her family down.

Liberty needs a virtuous people to survive; self-governance requires virtuous leaders. “Knowledgeability” is a necessary trait in political life, but it is not sufficient. The elitist critics of Palin, so blindly enamored of Barack Obama’s ability to hold forth for hours on theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, ignored the Founding Fathers’ counsel: Character counts. In times of adversity and crisis, it counts more than IQ points, instant trivia recall and bloviation skills.

“The most important thing I have learned, from my parents, from teachers, from my faith, from many good people I have been blessed to know, and from the lives of people whose stories we have included in this book,” John McCain wrote in “Character Is Destiny,” “is to want what they had, integrity, and to feel the sting of my conscience when I have risked it for some selfish reason.”

John McCain not only failed to make that message stick with the electorate, he apparently couldn’t persuade his own staff to heed his advice and practice what he preached.

President-elect Obama: Now The Real Fight Begins

As a Conservative I am not happy about losing on Nov. 4, and I am not in the mood to "unite" behind Socialism. We did not lose because we were too Conservative, far from it. We lost because we were too moderate, and did not defend the principals of true Conservatism...life, liberty, an enduring moral order, and individual sovereignty. Too many Counterfeit Conservatives have hijacked our cause, moved us in a direction of appeasement with ideals and beliefs that are against everything America stands for, and everything Conservatives have fought against. Now is not the time to sulk, now is the time to fight! Fight as if our very life’s depend on it, because they do. We are about to watch as Socialism takes control of the White House, and now is not the time to be silent. Now is the time for us to draw a line in the sand and say "ENOUGH!"

We lost because Conservatives have gone astray, but from the ashes a Phoenix must rise, too many people have sacrificed for us to stand by idly, shrugging our shoulders, saying "what can I do?". Right now Ronald Reagan is calling to us, telling us not to be afraid to stand for the principals that have made this country great, the very principals he stood for. Unfortunately we cannot clone Ronald Reagan, so we must find the next generation of great Conservatives. We have lost this battle, and we do not have to like it, but there are many more battles to come that will require our collective strength. This is our "Time for Choosing," our time to stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us, and reclaim the very soul of America. In the words of that great Conservative Edmund Burke - "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil in America is for good men to do nothing."

As for me, "to do nothing" is not an option. I choose instead the course of the greatest resistance, because what is at stake is too great. I will choose to fight for my family, for my community, and for my country.

The Road To Socialism Is Paved With Good Intentions

On November 4, we will be deciding which path America should take. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves, from time to time, that "We the People…" are the government. It is easy to succumb to the allure of Socialism, because somehow Americans feel that we can "control" it, mold it into an American image. It is not possible. Whether we call it Progressive, Liberal, Socialism, it is still Communism. Socialism requires that free men voluntarily give up their liberty, not all at once, but slowly and surely, Socialism demands we turn more control of our daily lives to a secluded power. A government that can give us everything can take everything away.

In the words of Ronald Reagan, "..this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power
except to sovereign people, is still the newest and most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man. This is the issue of this election. Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capital can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves."

We do not have the luxury of believing that the threat of Socialism is an exaggeration. With each election we seem more willing to surrender our destiny into the hands of bureaucrats; and each election they eagerly accept a greater control over the People they were meant to serve. Obama Will Raises Taxes On Everyone

Some of you may not remember the 1992 Presidential Election. During that election Bill Clinton chastised then President Bush for going against his promise of “no new taxes,” a promise Bush broke due to the overspending of the Democratic Congress.

Bill Clinton spent the ’92 campaign stating that he would raises taxes on the rich, lower taxes on the “middle-class,” and provide tax breaks for lower-income. But once Clinton took office, he raised taxes on the “rich and the middle-class,” which sent the economy into a downturn. Clinton did however provide “tax refunds” to the “lower-income.” As it just so happens, the rebates went to people not paying any taxes. If it wasn’t for the Conservative Revolution of 1994, who knows how far Clinton would have gone?

Within two months the bar for the middle-class moved down $130,000 dollars. If you take Obama’s $97,000.00 statement from 2007, and the fact that he voted to tax people making more than $42,000 dollars, the pattern becomes very clear. We are all going to get taxed, which is exactly what every leading economist says you SHOULDN’T DO!

It figures, just when I find out I am rich (according to Obama and the Democrats), I don’t have enough money to enjoy my new financial status!

10.) John McCain is much, much funnier than Barack Obama. But then, almost everyone is.

9.) John McCain is a passionate patriot who has always been, and will always be, guided by what he thinks is best for America. He can trace his ancestry back to an officer on Gen. George Washington's staff and his family has served the nation nobly in war and peace ever since. McCain believes in winning wars.

8.) McCain's intimate familiarity with military matters also makes him less biddable by the armed services. He was able, when most others (most notably his opponent) were not, to see that a change of strategy in Iraq -- not a retreat -- was needed. He brings an informed skepticism to military procurement requests as well.

7.) As he told Rick Warren, McCain believes that there is evil in the world and that it must be confronted. While Mrs. Obama and many others seem to think that our enemies will purr like kittens once we inaugurate a black man with an Islamic middle name, that is dangerous fantasy. When asked for an example of evil, McCain mentioned al-Qaida putting explosive vests on two mentally impaired girls and blowing them up by remote control in an Iraqi marketplace. Obama, whose turn of mind is different, cautioned that the problem is sometimes us: " a lot of evil has been perpetrated based on the claim that we were trying to confront evil."

6.) McCain may not be a Ph.D. economist, but he understands that raising taxes and adopting protectionist trade policies will deepen and prolong this recession. Nor would he permit Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to push through the "card check" law -- a union-backed measure that would reverse 73 years of labor law in this country by scuttling the secret ballot in union elections. Even George McGovern has denounced this job-killing, freedom-smothering law that Obama supports. Greater unionization will translate into lost productivity, inflationary pressure, and fewer jobs.

5.) John McCain will try to protect the unborn. Barack Obama is the most radical pro-abortion candidate ever to win a presidential nomination. Obama has promised to back the Freedom of Choice Act as his first presidential act, which would invalidate all restrictions on abortion at any stage of gestation -- and even in cases where babies are born alive after an attempted abortion.

4.) McCain will employ diplomacy, not worship it. Obama is deluded about the power of "talks." In 2007, he proposed, regarding Iran's nuclear program: "if we are meeting with them, talking to them, and offering them both carrots and sticks, they are more likely to change their behavior."

3.) John McCain has said that his models for good judicial picks are John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Senator Obama will pick Ralph Nader and Dennis Kucinich (just kidding, but his choices won't be far off).

2.) McCain's health care proposal will improve the world's best health care delivery system. He proposes to reform the most distorting aspect of our current system (the tax break for employers) and give the tax break to individuals instead. It is McCain's proposal, not Obama's, that will give individuals the choice to stay with the plan they have or take the tax credit and shop around (in a market enlarged by permitting interstate insurance). Obama's plan, by contrast, is a key first step to achieving his oft-repeated preference for a single-payer system like Canada's. By forcing employers to provide certain (as yet unspecified) benefits or pay a tax ("play or pay"), Obama's plan will encourage employers to dump more and more people into a government-run health insurance system like Medicare. Word to the wise: In Canada, they are seeking to reduce wait times for care. One province reported waits of 26 weeks for hip replacements, and others are trying to ensure (without success) that cancer patients are treated within 4 weeks of diagnosis.

1.) The financial crisis and looming recession, combined with President Bush's low approval ratings, have set the stage for this election to be a pivot point in American history. If Barack Obama is elected president and Democrats control large majorities in the House and Senate, the Obama/Pelosi/Reid triumvirate will move the country decisively in the direction of dying Europe -- low productivity, high joblessness, low birth rates, high taxes, and limp foreign policies. The triumvirate will do this at a time when a vibrant America is more necessary than ever -- with Iran seeking nuclear weapons, Pakistan teetering, al-Qaida regrouping, China and Russia telegraphing hostility, and Iraq just barely emerging into the sunshine. This election has become about far more than John McCain versus Barack Obama; it has become about whether the United States will remain the champion of freedom -- economic and political -- or whether we will join the queue of formerly great nations now struggling to pay for all the social welfare "benefits" their aging and lazy populations demand.
