" You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness."
Ronald Reagan
Waxman – Markey, also known by its ill-suited title the "American Clean Energy and Security Act," passed by the not so reassuring vote of 219 to 212. The battle begins anew in the Senate, where its passage is far less likely (but in this political climate, who knows).
The damage to America's economy, based on a false crisis, will be devastating. The Heritage Foundation validated that by 2035 the bill would cut the GDP of the United States by $6,790 per family of four and impose $4,600 in carbon taxes per family:
But the media, and other supporters of the American Clean Energy and Security Act, would prefer to ignore Heritage's findings, instead choosing to quote from the flawed Congressional Budget Office, which grossly underestimated the overall cost to the economy, as well as the individual impact:
This bill needs to be stopped before we find ourselves on a course that will damage the worldwide economy to the point of no return., just as it did in Spain and other parts of Europe.
As the polls start to show signs of Americas distain for the type of healthcare takeover being bandied about in Washington, along comes a horror story the Obama administration does not want you to hear:
I have long given up trying to understand the leadership of North Korea. They have committed to policies that have served only to starve and isolate their people. Now we have more “saber rattling” threats from Pyongyang:
I guess that is one way to end the “birth certificate” controversy. Notice they didn't threaten to aim it at Alaska. After the Palin slap down of Letterman, Kim Jong II would rather take his chances with President Obama.
This was a “none story,” and did not deserve front page coverage. But this story is a classic example of how clueless the liberal media is. 19 years after the program started, after no incidents whatsoever, with no-to-minimal cost to the taxpayers, suddenly the crackerjack team at the Globe are concerned that “some departments” got more guns than the program would seem to allow. Whew, for a minute there I was worried that the Globe was concerned that the police would be better armed than the criminals.
"So the government, with roughly two times what private bondholders have on the table, gets a stake five times bigger. And the union, with about a third as much "invested," gets a 70% bigger stake. Even the Canadian government, with its $9.5 billion "invested," ends up with 12%."
No politics at play here, and frankly I am appalled at the suggestion of impropriety, shocked I tell you! It seems rather straight forward, and consistent with Obama's "spread the wealth" philosophy. You and I, as new shareholders in GM, should be thankful that someone as benevolent as President Obama, and his crack team of advisors, is looking out for our best interest. We can all sleep better tonight (as long as excessive drinking and sleeping pills are part of our nighttime regiment), knowing that the full weight of the US Government is behind GM (or in this case, on top).
As a fellow shareholder, we should also feel confident that a 31 year-old college graduate and former Obama campaign staffer, Brian Deese, has been task with overseeing the dismantling of the former grand lady of the automotive world. Forget the fact that Deese has NO EXPERIENCE at running a business, let alone has ever stepped foot in an automotive plant; although rumor has it he just got his learners permit. Familiarity and expertise are both highly overrated anyway.
Deese's selection should be an indication to us all of President Obama's keen business suave, and commitment to taking the automotive crisis seriously. Deese, who served as one of Obama's attack dogs during the presidential campaign, is "just too smart to fail (now the official motto of the Obama administration)."
But fear not my fellow automotive titans, not only do we have President Obama and wiz kid Deese taking care of our company, he have the Duke of Delaware in our corner as well:
That's right, why worry about our representative form of government, we have a bloody car company to run! Besides, we will just have to wait until the next shareholders meeting to make any changes to the newly appointed board of directors, formerly known as the Democratic Congressional Caucasus, which is currently scheduled for November 2, 2010.
In addition, why should we be concerned that most economists believe this latest move by the Obama administration will scare away customers? How dare they question our leader and his sidekicks?
So until the holiday party, keep checking the mailbox for your dividend checks, and thank God every day that you live in a country where one day you are a regular schmo, and the next day the owner of your very own car company!
As President Obama prepares for another oversees trip, some in America are concerned about one of his scheduled stops. On June 5 (a day before the 65th anniversary of D-Day), President Obama will visit the Germany town of Dresden, and many fear that President Obama will offer an apology for a false crime:
If President Obama offers any sort of apology he will not only be doing a disservice to America, but he will also be dishonoring all the brave aircrews that participated in this necessary mission. To offer an apology based on revisionist history does not serve the best interest of America, and any act of contrition will only serve to perpetuate the myth that America did something wrong.
There are many tragic stories connected to World War II, including Dresden. However, the Dresden tragedy is not of America's making, and to offer penance is nothing more than offering validation to a falsehood, and is an example of the type self-flagellation some in this country feel we should perform to purge America of its sins, real or perceived.
